Over seven months since Singapore’s first all-vending machine café opened its doors at a Sengkang void deck, the ever popular novelty is about to open two more outlets next month — this time targeting Ang Mo Kio and Lakeside MRT stations.

Originally, operator JR Vending announced plans to open the café at Rivervale and Pasir Ris, but those plans were shelved when “the opportunity to work with SMRT came up.”

The idea of vending machine food isn’t entirely new, but the concept of a vending machine café is the first of its kind. Since its debut in Sengkang, the café has attracted hordes of people curious to try out its quirky concept.

However, there are plenty of risks that come with the novelty, including food that’s not heated enough or machine transaction errors.

In an interview by Channel News Asia with JR Group CEO and founder Jocelyn Chng, she said that they “wanted to try out the VendCafé concept in a more mass, fluid audience group.”

The planned outlets at Rivervale and Pasir Ris have been scheduled to open around mid-2017 instead.
