Amidst all the good food in Bugis, a cosy Thai eatery sits along Tan Quee Lan Street. Perhaps you’re familiar with its name — after all, Sawadee Thai Cuisine has been around for 15 years. That’s pretty impressive, given the fickle loyalties of Singaporean foodies and the never-ending new openings popping up on every nook and cranny of the island.
All that said, sometimes you just gotta change with the times. So the restaurant is launching a revamped menu to celebrate its 15th anniversary this month. And don’t worry, your favourites like panaeng red curry roast duck, olive fried rice, Thai coconut chicken soup and spicy steamed sea bass still make appearances on the menu.

As for the new additions, start off with an order of pan-seared Hokkaido scallops ($30/seven pieces) served on a clay plate with a sweet and sour sauce.

Next up, meaty treats come in the form of grilled Kurobuta pork collar ($22) with an addictive homemade spicy sauce and pan-seared black Angus beef rib eye ($32/220g) with a side of green curry sauce.

Then there’s the ultimate dessert. Unless you can’t live a day without mango, we’re giving you the go-ahead to skip straight to the new Mao Shan Wang durian sticky rice ($12). Think creamy, silky, rich globs of premium durian flesh sprinkled with sesame seeds and nestled on a bed of sweet sticky rice. It’s quite the indulgent end to the meal.

Sawadee Thai Cuisine is at #01-01 TQL Suites, 9 Tan Quee Lan St, 6238-6833. Daily 11am-2.30pm, 6pm-10.30pm.
