Frozen treats are always welcome in our tropical country, where every day is a battle to keep cool. And new to the local dessert scene is Popbar, the first Singapore outlet of the popular NYC gelato chain. If you’re thinking, ‘what’s so different about this popsicle stand?’ — it actually makes its popbars every day, in small batches of 26. Only fresh and natural ingredients are used, so you can expect zero artificial flavours, preservatives or high fructose corn syrup in your sticks.
All the popGelato ($5.40), popSorbetto ($4.90) and yogurtPop ($5.40) flavours are gluten-free, and they’ve also got vegan and lactose-free options for those who have dietary restrictions but still wanna have their pop and eat it.

If you’re looking for a light, fruity afternoon snack, try the popSorbetto varieties. From lemon and grapefruit to pineapple, mango and passionfruit, these fat free sticks are only 69 to 79 calories each. Or go for the yogurtPop of mixed berries, peach and strawberry yogurt for 100-calorie bites.
But when you’re feeling up for a decadent treat, we suggest you get the popGelato in must-try flavours like chocolate (you can never go wrong with that), hazelnut, pistachio, peanut butter and coconut. While they may cost you a little more calorie-wise (they range from 149 to 198 calories), they’re totally worth it.
Throw in an extra 50 cents for toppings like coconut shavings, crushed waffle cone, pistachio or chocolate sprinkles, and then another 50 cents on top of that to dip your chosen stick into white, milk or dark chocolate (or all three). And trust us when we say you should, ’cause you can have both in unlimited qualities. That’s right — the additional $1 will get you every single topping and dip if that’s what you want. Just be aware of the stares you might get for your gluttony kiasu-ness.

Popbar is at #B2-64 Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Rd. Daily 10.30am-10pm.
