A dash of drama to go with your dinner?

Eatigo, the restaurant reservation platform with time-based discounts, has just launched its Eatigo Sedap Society, a series of pop-up experiential dining events. And, first up — a National Day edition called Once Upon a Ginger Chicken.

Done in collaboration with local theater group Skinned Knee Productions, this two-day event sees guests partake in a three-course meal at Sofitel Sentosa’s Kwee Zeen restaurant, while being taken on a three-act whirlwind journey through the past, present, and future of Singapore.

Without revealing too much, the story begins back in the 1930s, with the introduction of a samsui woman and her star-crossed relationship with a young tow kay. Cue the appetizer: Ginger chicken, presented as separate bite-sized elements on the plate.

Now we’re back in modern Singapore, where the samsui woman thinks back on her past as a Chinese immigrant, how she came to work in a foreign land, fell in love, and rode the wave of changes to her current life with her grandchild. For this second course, diners get to choose between beef short rib rendang and curry-crusted red snapper loin.

As part of the final act, the audience is encouraged to get interactive in a sharing session about their vision of Singapore in 2147, collectively thinking out loud about questions such as “is our society happier or worse off 99 years from now?”

The last course materializes as a 66 percent Valrhona chocolate dish, intricately plated with multiple sweet components.

If all this sounds intriguing, but if you’re interested in trying it out, then you’d need to download the Eatigo app (available for iOS and Android users) to make a booking. The interface includes an Events page, where you can choose your preferred date, then enter the code “SECRETEATS” to finish up the reservation. The $65 payment is done on-site.

Seats are limited to 50 per evening, so if you’re already a fan of theatrical dining operators like Andsoforth, perhaps this one’s for you.
