Hey, durian aficionados. There’s a new durian cafe in town (apart from Double Durian and Mao Shan Wang Cafe), and it’s located right by the new Poiz Centre next to Potong Pasir MRT station. A cozy pastry shop lit with natural light and decked out in marble and gold elements, the 11-seater creates cakes, ice cream, and other baked goods using the creamy flesh of the King of Fruits.
Just six items feature on the menu, including durian coconut milk pudding ($6) and mao shan wang ice cream (at a jaw-dropping $9 per cup). If you’d rather have a smaller version, try the mao shan wang puff ($3) instead, with a light and airy pastry sandwiching a rich scoop of ice cream.
If you’re looking for that pungent punch, the durian flavor is stronger in the cake ($12), which has bits of fruit flesh studded in each slice. Apparently, each whole cake is made from an entire mao shan wang durian. Alternatively, you can try the durian mousse cake ($8.50) for lighter layers of smooth durian mousse, fluffy vanilla sponge, and a topping of macadamia nuts with gula melaka drizzles.
However, those wanting to sink your teeth into the actual fruit will be disappointed here, as the cafe only offers durians in dessert form. But on the plus side, for non-durian fans especially, the space won’t reek to the high heavens.
