Fans of Wine Connection, there’s a new restaurant/bar in town with a pretty similar concept. Mediterranean joint Winestone sits near hotels like Novotel Singapore and Mercure Singapore, and beckons all wine aficionados to enter with its sleek decor, warm hues and bottles upon bottles of wine.

Like its name suggests, the focus here is more on the wine selection than the food — aka Wine Connection — but still, the menu offers enticingly affordable options such as the Winestone Express Platter. For $22, you’ll be served (in 15 minutes tops, apparently) a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, olives, bread, and a glass of house pour wine — and yes, the drink is included in the price.

Other small bites include tacos ($14), rosemary fries ($10), and crispy risotto arancine ($14), as well as a selection of desserts including churros with hot chocolate sauce ($12), vanilla panna cotta with baklava ($14), and chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream ($14).

But if you’re in the mood for more than just grazing, start with appetizers like the ricotta and veal meatballs ($14), falafel with hummus ($14) or battered fried whitebait ($12), before you move on to heartier plates such as braised octopus ($25), steak tartare ($28), or pumpkin, gorgonzola, and mozzarella pizza ($25).

Prices are kept to a pretty standard restaurant range, unless you opt for premium meats like the grass-fed roasted lamb rack ($52) or the 150 days grain-fed beef tenderloin with foie gras ($87).

As for the wines, whites and reds by the glass start at a rather reasonable price of $10, while bottles can go from $48 all the way up to $750. Nevertheless, if you’d like to bring the party home with you, there’s a retail section for you to purchase wines for takeaway.

Winestone is at #01-09, 30 Stevens Rd, 6491-6100. Lunch (from Feb 1): Tues-Sun noon-2:30pm; dinner: Sun-Thurs 6pm-midnight, Fri-Sat 6pm-2am.
