Bubble tea just got bumped up to M18, y’all. At The Local Box, a casual café hidden along a quiet street in Tanjong Pagar, you’ll find what’s been hailed as Singapore’s first alcoholic bubble tea.

Basically, the eatery mixes a variety of booze into its tea range, with four options including Heineken green tea ($9), Nutella Baileys milk tea ($11), taro tequila milk tea ($12), and pineapple rum thyme tea ($12). Pearls can be tossed into your drink for an additional 50 cents.

Some of the combinations may sound a tad strange, but just think of ‘em as the grown-up version of whatever Gong Cha/LiHo/Koi offer. And really, the best part is, you can totally pre-game for a night out with these adult beverages, and no one walking past you on the street would even notice.

Of course, for those who prefer to stick with what’s tried and tested, The Local Box also serves up PG13 versions of the Nutella and taro milk teas ($3.50), as well as every bubble tea shop’s standard Earl Grey milk tea ($3.50).

If you’re staying for a meal at the cosy café – which offers takeaway and weekday delivery services – the menu includes simple dishes such as dry laksa ($7.40/set) and nasi lemak ($7.40/set), as well as snacks like spam fries with sambal mayo ($7.50), wonton crisps ($7.50), kaya butter croissant ($5), and a couple of dim sum items.

The Local Box is at #01-05, 8 Enggor St, 8303-0362. Mon-Thurs 7:30am-6pm, Fri 7:30am-7:30pm.
