A Singaporean woman who used to sell food at local night markets has brought those pasar malam vibes to a store in Jurong.
Named Pasar Malam Corner for the Malay term for night market, the Jurong East shop offers night market street food such as Japanese takoyaki, banana fritters, Thai Iced Tea, and bandung rose milk, just outside the JCube mall.
While the shop is operated by a woman known only as Asnizar, her daughter was spreading the word last night.
“Due to covid we’re unable to give u pasar malam but dont worry we will bring pasar malam to u ! so pls come down and support,” she tweeted as @Cr0issant7, sharing photos of the store. A lot of people late last night were either feeling pangs of hunger or night market withdrawal – her message has been retweeted more than 2,000 times.
In the photos, snacks are seen spread out across a booth, a familiar night market sight.

Such markets used to be a common sight in Singapore’s working-class neighborhoods but have all but vanished since the COVID-19 outbreak hit a year ago. Several other famous night market vendors, such as Jayz snacks and The Original Vadai, have also resorted to renting out stores in places like Sembawang and Joo Chiat to stay afloat.
The pandemic is mostly contained in Singapore, with just a trickle of new daily cases reported in recent weeks. Since it began, nearly 60,000 infections and 29 deaths have been counted.
