You’ve seen the pink and blue swirls of Starbucks’ limited edition Unicorn Frappuccino making a splash all over social media by now. The whimsical drink — which only launched in the US, Canada and Mexico for a couple days last week — is supposedly made of ‘sweet pink powder’, mango syrup and ‘sour blue drizzle’, topped off with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkling of more pink and blue powder. We’ve heard the first sip conjures a magical medley of sweet and fruity notes, but after you stir the drink, its color changes and the flavors become a little more tangy.

Anyway, we’ll never know how it tastes like, ’cause the crazy popular drink that drove Starbucks baristas up the wall for five straight days never came to our shores. But thanks to the creative baristas at the Orchard Point Starbucks, now we have a Singapore version of the mythical frappuccino.

Introducing… The Merlion Frappuccino.

Apparently, YouTube user thejetsets actually approached the Starbucks baristas to request for a localized rendition of the pastel drink that never made it here. Although the baristas were a little taken aback initially, they eventually warmed to the idea and whipped up a ‘tropical edition’ — a pink and orange frappuccino in a creamy mango flavor. Also, unlike the unicorn concoction, this Merlion one reportedly tastes pretty damn good.

For those of you who aren’t hurrying over to your nearest Starbucks to order the Merlion frapp, here’s a throwback to our round-up of colorful rainbow foods in Singapore for unicorn wannabes.
