Singapore’s first Japanese farmers’ market debuts at… Changi Airport

Farmers’ markets aren’t new to Singapore — even though we’re not exactly known for our agricultural industry, people here love to shop for fresh produce, artisanal groceries and hipster-fied foods at these pop-up markets.

So here’s a new one for ya. Hailed as Singapore’s first premium Japanese farmers’ market, the retail space offers everything from seasonal veggies and fruits to meat products and sake — all brought in from Japan. Some items, including the Egoma tea and a selection of unique sushi and wagyu sake, are new to Singapore.

But weirdly enough, it’s located all the way over at Changi Airport, in the Departure Hall of Terminal 3. Perhaps you can stock up on Japanese goods after you return from an overseas trip then? Or maybe you’d like to purchase Japanese delicacies and sweets to nibble on board the plane? You could also bring a slab of wagyu beef, sealed in ice gel packs, to your next destination, if you’d like. Anything for wagyu, after all.

Snow beef hamburg with ontama (poached egg), one of the items at GO-ZEN.

Besides the fresh produce, the store also offers ready-to-eat bento boxes by GO-ZEN. Here, you can customize your meal from a range of 25 ingredients including scallops, snow crab, ikura salmon roe, Niigata Japanese rice, and wagyu. So if you’re hankering for Japanese cuisine pre-/post-flight, pop by Terminal 3 for a bite or two.
