COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Fifteen years since Rumours was established in Seminyak, Bali, and became one of the hottest eateries in the area, the brand has expanded to the watering hole district of Holland Village, bringing its opulent offerings to an appropriate setting.

But really, you might have seen Rumours Bar & Grill in operation as far back as October last year at 24 Lorong Mambong. It took a couple of months to rejig and refine the menu, and the end result is worth the wait. Helmed by a team of local talents — including a delicious menu crafted by award-winning chef Noor Azman — Rumours serves up a delectable array of pasta dishes, sharing platters, and bar snacks to accompany the week-round live music and weekend DJ sets.

It would be very remiss for one to make a trip to Rumours without partaking in the humungous meaty platters (soz, vegans). The majestic 1.2kg Fiorentina Bistecca ($89.80) arrives on a wooden board chock full of grilled Australian black Angus beef cuts, sautéed potato, and roasted vegetables.

If you’re more of a solo carnivorous hunter, dig into grill specialties like the 250gm rack of lamb ($29.80) with truffle mashed potato and pepperonata, the grilled salmon fillet ($17.8) with green pea purée, sautéed spinach, and tomato salsa, or the grilled whole Boston lobster thermidor ($28.80) with cream, egg yolk, and cheese if you’re feeling fancy enough.

Meanwhile, the German platter ($29.80) pays tribute to the hearty food of Deutschland with crispy whole pork knuckles, homemade Wiener schnitzel, bratwurst veal pork sausages, sauerkraut, and potato salad.

If German cuisine proves to be über-formidable for your stomachs, go Italian with the likes of Aglio Olio pasta ($8.80) that’s prepped with king mushroom and sake wine, or the carbonara ($13.80) with smoked beef bacon.

It’s not a bar without bar snacks, and even these are served with hedonistic attention. Check out the crispy chicken wings with a side of Pomodoro sauce ($8.80), crispy calamari basted with fragrant truffle oil and coupled with sriracha mayo ($8.80), luncheon meat fries ($8.80) and, of course, a Rumours-exclusive snack – hand-cut fat chips ($7.80) generously tossed in parmesan cheese and truffle oil.

While you’re at it with the signature stuff, toss in the Rumours grilled cheese burger ($12.80) made out of a homemade patty topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, and crispy Old Dutch cheese, plus fat chips on the side. Word on the street is that Rumours is having a celebratory promotion from now till Aug. 31 that involves a cheese burger on the house with any purchase of a main dish when you quote “welcome rumours”.

If all that isn’t enough to seduce you, Rumours has a generous Liquid Buffet that will bring out the budding alcoholic in you — it’s two hours of free flow drinks from 8pm till midnight daily for a reasonable fee of $35 per head. And that ain’t no gossip, son, that’s a fact.

Rumours Bar & Grill is at 24 Lorong Mambong, 6463-5053. Daily 5pm-1am.
