Dumplings come in all shapes and sizes — almost every culture has its own variation. And if you haven’t tried Austrian ones, well, you’re in for a treat at Kaiserhaus. The relatively new Capitol Theatre restaurant is featuring Austrian dumplings on its menu for the month of July, with a variety of five savoury and sweet options.

The Tiroler Speckknödel (Tyrolean-style bacon dumplings) comes stuffed with meat and herbs, and it’s served with beef broth. For something a little more traditional, try the Bohemian meat dumplings, which come in hearty portions accompanied by potato salad, mâche and béarnaise sauce. If you’re not quite sure what to go for and you just wanna sample a taste, the dumplings trio offers a selection of three smaller ones, each stuffed with one of the following: Spinach, cheese or baked liver.

We know sweet dumplings can sound a little… suspicious, especially if you’re not used to having them. But trust us, these ones are kind of really good. We recommend the Mozart dumplings, filled with marzipan and nougat praline, and served with pistachio ice cream — each bite is melt-in-your-mouth delish, and it’s reminiscent of mochi stuffed with nutty chocolate and covered in sweet crumbs.

There’s also the strawberry dumplings, which feature the same crumb crust enveloping chunks of the fruit inside. And if you’re thinking what we think you might be thinking, don’t worry, the dumplings actually do taste better than they look.

The dumplings menu is available from now till Jul 31 at Kaiserhaus, #02-06 and #03-06 Capitol Theatre, 17 Stamford Rd. Sun-Thurs 10.30am-11pm, Fri & Sat 10.30am-midnight.
