Tucked away in the basement of Raffles City, 52 Sandwich Shack is very dedicated to its meat-stuffed grilled cheese sammies. The food stall, which caters to the grab-and-go crowd, offers a rather limited menu with six different types of glorious grilled cheese choices.
First off, the simple grilled cheese ($6.90), with a mix of cheddar, mozzarella, and fontina oozing out from the fluffy sandwich, for traditionalists who can’t bear the thought of playing around with something so sacred.
If you’d like a little more meat in your meal, go for the yakiniku pulled pork ($8.90) with pickles or the thinly-sliced wagyu beef with onsen tamago ($11.90) so you can dip each bite into the runny egg. There’s also the newly launched katsu chicken with Japanese curry that’s topped with potato, carrot and onion chunks and sandwiched by two buttery brioche buns — it’s best saved for a dreary, rainy day when you’re going ravenous for cozy comfort food.
For carbs upon more carbs, try the bacon mac ‘n’ cheese ($7.90) and be prepared to get your hands dirty, ’cause no good ever came out of letting mac ‘n’ cheese go to waste.
Lastly, the truffle and mushroom ($9.90) option packs on juicy mushrooms, spinach leaves, and, of course, truffle oil.
52 Sandwich Shack is at #B1-54 Raffles City Shopping Centre. Daily 9am-9pm.
