Adding on to the long list of famous overseas eateries coming to Singapore is Mui Kee Congee, the popular hawker name from Hong Kong, which will make its debut here on June 30. Known and loved for its fish broth congee, the decades-old eatery will pop-up at Les Amis Group’s Casa Verde restaurant in the Botanic Gardens for six months, serving up piping hot bowls of congee during breakfast and lunch.

Eight variations of Canto-style porridge will feature on the menu — with ingredients like meatballs, pig’s innards and sliced beef — in different sets ($12.50-$14.50) that include dough fritters and sliced century eggs with preserved ginger. Other sides come in the form of drunken chicken ($10) and blanched kai lan ($7).

For those of you worried about a possible drop in quality here, fret not. Mui Kee’s current third-generation owner will be based in town for the first couple weeks to check in on the pop-up, and he’ll return once or twice a month after that to ensure the food remains consistently good. Quality control, y’all.

By year-end, the congee stall will have set up a permanent space to serve its dishes.
