In the heart of town, a sort-of Little Japan has opened up where patrons can feast and experience the full succulent armada of authentic Japanese cuisine.
Wisma Atria’s Japan Food Town opened its doors to much fanfare, announcing the arrival of 16 bona fide Japanese kitchens, restaurants and bars in a 20,075 sq ft space. But this is no mere collection of Japanese restaurants — the aesthetics come into play as well.
Understatedly modern yet warm and welcoming, the whole area on the fourth floor of the Orchard Road mall feels truly Japanophilic — and the variety of food and beverage offered speaks largely of its authenticity.
Though only 12 tenants have started service, it’s a sufficient experience. From the buttermilk fried chicken cutlets of Ranmang Shokudo to the cold handmade noodles of Yomoda Soba; the crisp slices of fish at Sabar to the silky smooth saké selection at Dassai Bar — it just might be the closest thing to a night out feasting in Tokyo.
“I believe that through offering Singapore a truly authentic Japanese dining experience without those exorbitant prices, customers will appreciate a real sense of Japanese hospitality,” said Japan Food Town Development managing director Makoto Yoshikawa. “We call this Omotenashi, where you will be warmly welcomed and respected”.
