In pics: Everything you ever wanted to know about the Hello Kitty Orchid Garden cafe

What’s so special about Singapore’s Hello Kitty Orchid Garden, you ask? A few things, actually. It’s the world’s first 24-hour Hello Kitty-themed cafe, it’s the only one situated in an airport, and it’s got a pretty lush garden theme going on. Sure, there are life-sized figurines in selfie corners and adorable merch, but partners of kitty-obsessed people need not fret, ’cause the space isn’t as cutesy as you think, so you can go ahead and let yourself be dragged to the cafe.

Over The Rainbow: A mix of leafy greens, grilled portobello, pineapple, jackfruit, feta and pine nuts with laksa mustard vinaigrette.
Cowabunga! Wagyu!: Wagyu beef rendang with Japanese rice and ponzu sauce.

The menu includes Asian-influenced dishes, including a beef rendang and rice dish, a salad drizzled with laksa mustard dressing, and a pandan panna cotta. They’ve all got quirky little names, of course. Other options include nachos (don’t brush them off — these were better than we expected), a big breakfast plate, and pastry-wrapped cheesy hotdogs.

Camping under the Stars: Scoops of hazelnut and chocolate gelato under a tent of graham crackers, surrounded by a bonfire of toasted muesli and green tea powder.
The Cat in Paradise: Mango mousse with almond crumble, berry compote and marshmallow sauce, plus a side of hazelnut gelato.

On the drinks side, Kitty coolers include refreshing flavours like watermelon and cucumber, but the stand-out was undoubtedly the apple pie tea, a slightly sweet concoction of apple with a hint of cinnamon. This comes in the form of a loose leaf tea, and it’s stocked in the merch corner. Other purchases you can get include DIY plant kits, postcards and plushies — the soft toys are limited to 500, so you’ll have to get in line before they run out.
