If the hangovers are cramping your style and you just want to wake up the next morning feeling fresh and good as new, these party tricks might just work on you.
Whether you consume little or a lot, there are ways you can prevent the painful headaches and nausea the next day that might limit you from going all out at drinking events.
We collated a bunch of hangover remedies that come in pills, bottles and gummies to suit one’s preference.
Here are some of the anti-hangover solutions you can get on with.
Note: these solutions (except DrinkAid) will not keep you from getting drunk, that’s on you!
Bounceback
Support local! Singapore’s Bounceback Post-Alcohol Relief pills contain dihydromyricetin (DHM), the brand’s “hero ingredient” that supports the liver and helps one feel “refreshed” the next morning.
They also said the pills improve one’s alcohol metabolism, reduce headaches and nausea, and replenish lost vitamins, minerals and nutrients from the alcohol consumed.
They are 100% natural, vegan and organic. Its ingredients are DHM, milk thistle, ginger root, Korean ginseng, prickly pear and black pepper fruit.
The recommended usage is two capsules before drinking and two more after the last drink or before going to bed.
One box, which has 40 capsules that can last for 10 night outs, sells for S$49.90. A 25% discount is given if you subscribe for a month or two.
It is also available on Shopee, Prime Supermarkets, Guardian, Cold Storage and Shell stations.
As for reviews, their Shopee site got at least 1,400 5-star ratings with only four 1-star ratings.
But some complained that it did not work for those who tend to get the Asian flush and others said it was a “placebo effect.”
Still, most were impressed by its effects. Take it from Enzo whose review was highlighted on their official website.
One even took it without drinking any alcohol just to cure a headache and it worked!
DrinkAid
Another Singapore-born hangover cure DrinkAid offers its “Complete Alcohol Defence” which they claim will “change” the way one enjoys alcohol.
Their 100% natural formula reduces Asian flush, eases the discomfort and keeps you productive the next day.
Its ingredients are Japanese Raisin Tree, ginger extract, L-Pyroglutamic Acid, Succinic Acid, black pepper extract, and S-Acetyl Glutathione nourishing vitamins.
The brand said they differ from others in terms of targetting acetaldehyde, the root cause of alcohol’s side effects.
One box has 12 capsules for six servings at S$19.90. It is recommended to take it before to prevent the nasty side effects of a hangover or after to sober up quickly. And for a heavier drinking sesh, take it before and after.
The brand even says taking the pills before can prevent you from getting drunk and can increase your alcohol tolerance.
A dodgy fact they claim on their website is that their pills could lower the amount of alcohol in one’s breath since “lower” (not zero) alcohol consumed would mean safer roads. Look, we’re no doctors but you sure shouldn’t be drinking at all if you are going to drive.
WE REPEAT: DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
Regardless, the reviews on their site and Shopee store stated that the pills “never failed” for one buyer and more than one calling it a “miracle” pill.
But for some, they were still hit with the hangovers and Asian flushes even though they followed the recommended dosages and one even upped them.
DrinkAid is also available on Shopee and Amazon.
PartySmart
Who doesn’t want to be smart while partying?
Himalaya Wellness Company’s PartySmart pills require downing just one capsule with water best before or during alcohol consumption.
It is said to relieve headaches, nausea and vomiting, drowsiness, fatigue and body aches and stomach burns. Instead, it prevents damage to the liver.
Its ingredients include Cichorium intybus, Phoenix dactylifera (Dates), Andrograpis paniculate, Vitis vinifera (grapes), Phyllanthus niruri and Emblica officinalis.
It is also vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO verified and free from synthetics and additives.
The pill comes in a pack of five strips with 25 capsules for S$25.50.
Note: there are several variations of packaging depending on the country of purchase but they all work the same!
Comments from multiple buyers from Amazon and Shopee stated that it was a repeat order, with some saying it is their “all-time favorite” hangover pill that can withstand even more than their drinking threshold.
A subscription (for one to three months) is available with a 5% discount off every order from their official Singapore site. It is also available on Shopee and Lazada.
Hepalyse W
Claimed to be Japan’s top anti-hangover product, the Hepalyse W comes in bottle and pastille form.
The anti-hangover pineapple-flavored liquid and sugar-coated tablets are said to reduce toxic levels in the body to prevent fatigue and hangovers.
It contains curcumin, piperin (black pepper extract), Niacin, Vitamin B6, B2 and liver extract, obtained from fresh mammal liver.
The 100ml Hepalyse W Bottle costs S$5.35 while the Hepalyse W Pastille Type, which comes in 10 packs of two tablets each, cost S$32.
For best results, drink the bottle or take two tablets a day before drinking or going to bed.
Several reviewers on Shopee said they were repeat buyers with one saying the pastilles taste like M&M’S!
It is also available in Don Don Donki outlets, Shopee and Lazada.
Ready Q
For those not used to taking pills or bitter hangover relief options, consider the Ready-Q mango chew by South Korean pharmaceutical company Handok. It is claimed to be the country’s first “delicious” anti-hangover jelly that is soft and chewy.
The mango-flavored jelly, which contains curcumin, comes in five packs of three gummies each for S$16 on Shopee.
It is recommended to take one packet of three gummies before or after drinking.
Shopee customers said the gummy is addictive like “candy” but it also has a “strong” mango flavor that some might not like.
DrinkUp
Biofinest, which has a wide range of health supplements sold locally in supermarkets, is offering DrinkUp as their “ultimate” drinking remedy.
It is said to be formulated with 20 vitamins, antioxidants, liver supporters, electrolytes, and herbal extracts to battle the after-effects of drinking.
The capsules also help “rebalance” nutrients for the brain, heart and body and allow one to sleep restfully.
Two capsules are recommended to be taken with water before or after drinking. But for “big nights out,” take two more. Make sure to eat first and do not take them on an empty stomach.
One box contains 40 capsules for 20 servings total for S$29.95.
Its ingredients include Vitamins B complex, C, and E, Zinc, Magnesium, DHM, Milk Thistle, Prickly Pear, Ginseng, Ginger, and L-Theanine.
While there are not many reviews online yet, its marketing images and information provided seem convincing.
It is available in NTUC FairPrice stores, Shopee and Lazada.
