COCONUTS HOT SPOT — The exterior of Parkview Square in Bugis screams Gotham City (well, that is what we’ve been calling it since young) for its fearsome Art Deco style — but its immediate interior is less Dark Knight and more Great Gatsby.
As glorious and awe-inspiring as the Greek Titan itself, the newly-opened Atlas Grand Lobby & Bar takes up the ground floor of the iconic building, sporting similar Art Deco styles for all-day (and night) dining and drinking.
The impeccable environment wouldn’t be able to stand on its own (with the weight of the world on its shoulders) without similarly elegant European gastronomic offerings, of course. The extensive (and very atas) menu is the brainchild of Executive Chef Daniel Sperindio, who’s taken his experience from working at two-Michelin-starred joint Narisawa to influence his culinary creations.
Highlights include Atlas’ slow braised short rib ($32), white mushroom soup ($18), bruschetta triumph of the sea ($28) and topinambur risotto ($24).
But really, the raison d’être is the Atlas Gin Collection — the phenomenal tower of curated spirits from multiple countries and ages. Under the tutelage of eminent bartender Roman Foltán, the Art Deco-inspired cocktails are crafted from a selection that includes everything from 1910 London dry gins to modern offerings. It’s hard not to sup in awe looking at the glorious ceiling-high tower filled with gin bottles.
Forget minimalism for a bit; both the aesthetics and substance of Atlas Grand Lobby & Bar are nothing to shrug at.
Atlas Grand Lobby & Bar is at Parkview Square, 600 North Bridge Rd, 6396-4466. Mon-Thurs 8am-1am; Fri 8am-2am; Sat 3pm-2am.
