COCONUTS HOT SPOT — If you’re an avid fan of Korean spirits and are in for something new, this new restaurant may just be up to the challenge.
Located along Tanjong Pagar Road, Hansul Korean Restaurant is yet another Korean restaurant opened by entrepreneur and actor Haden Hee. Hansul – “bottoms up” in English – however wants to stand out from the dozens of fellow Korean bars in the neighbourhood with exclusive spirits that’s imported straight from the Land of the Morning Calm. And they put the statement to task; Hansul boasts a selection of exclusive brands that aren’t located elsewhere in the country.
In his words, Haden Hee said: “While we would like to establish ourselves as a drinks centric Korean styled bar, our aim is also to provide our customers with an authentic and memorable experience while dining at Hansul. We have crafted our menu in such a way to pair our signature dishes with our wide selection of drinks.”
Take this particular brand – the Jeju Hanrasan Soju – for example: it is said to be a hit with Korean customers who’re familiar with the beloved drink back home. Other varieties on the menu include a range of Makgeolli, herbal Cheongju, seasonal fruit and sparkling wines. All these offerings in addition to Korean beers too.
But what’s a dining bar without food? Accompanying its impressive array of spirits is the bars’ signature ‘Hwa-ro’ grilled dishes, ranging between $2 – $8 from its standard beef and pork grills to seafood grills such as long-legged octopus skewers. Personalised charcoal grills are said to be the trend that’s taking South Korea by storm now, and Hansul claims to be the first of such restaurants to bring the popular concept into Singapore.
Other entrees on the menu include Octopus Tempura ($9), Basak Gamja Cheese Jeon ($9.90), Soft Tofu Au Gratin ($14.90) and Spicy Pork Rib Stew ($28).
So who would very likely become a fan of Hansul? Simply put, Koreans first, who would definitely drop by frequently to enjoy the unique flavors of the bars’ range of exclusive spirits, as well as the rest of us who’re likely to also be interested in something other than the usual Soju.
After amassing a number of Korean supporters since its soft opening on Jan 24, they’re now casting a wider net in a bid to attract more Singaporeans. Oh and did we mention that the bar will be extending its closing time until 6am? Because they totally are — meaning late night exotic alcohol-fuelled revelries will only end when the MRT starts running.

Hansul Korean Restaurant is located at 21 Tanjong Pagar Road, 6906-7088. Daily 5pm- 6am.
