This new hangout on Tanjong Pagar Road has communal tables, free wifi and all-day dining

You’ve heard of 28 HongKong Street, the bar in Singapore that nabbed the top spot on the inaugural Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards list last year. Well, the team behind the famous name (and Proof & Company Spirits) has just launched an all-day dining and drinking venue in the CBD.

Taking up a space on Tanjong Pagar Road, Crackerjack features elements like communal tables, free wifi and charging stations, an open kitchen, artworks by Mojoko and a shuffleboard table for you to get your game on. It’s the kind of restaurant where you can pop by for a work lunch, treat your buddies to dinner or hang out on the weekends for drinks.

Mash-Bill Grits

Helming the kitchen is head chef Alysia Chan, formerly at Meatsmith, with varying menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At the start of the day, you can choose the healthier option of homemade yogurt with organic Dutch milk, or dive headfirst into the all-American-inspired Mash-Bill Grits ($12) of stone-ground cornmeal, rye and barley with smoked gouda, poached eggs and chicken scratchings.

Lunch is an interesting concept — you’ll almost feel like you’re back in school, ’cause the dishes are served up in lunch ‘trays’ ($18-$25). Choices include mojo brandt bavette steak salad, three cheese barley risotto or lentil mushroom scotch egg. But if you don’t fancy feeling like an adult kid, go for a la carte plates like kale salad with sweet potato and spiced pumpkin seeds ($14) or bone broth with egg stracciatella, barley and kale ($12).

Family meal roast chicken

For dinner, the selection ranges from hearty fare to vegetarian plates to slightly more health-conscious alternatives. The menu — which is separated into snacks, veggies, dinner trays, meats, grains and sweets — offers a variety of options including bourbon glazed pork collar chop ($24), family meal whole roasted chicken with three sides ($58) and peanut butter chocolate tart ($12).

On the drinks end, you can rest assured you’re in good hands, ’cause the bar is helmed by Peter Chua and Zachary de Git, two award-winning bartenders formerly from 28 HongKong Street and Tippling Club respectively. Concoctions to try include Mojoko’s Psycho Tropics ($18), a blend of tequila, lime, pineapple, tamarind and chilli, and Fro-Zay ($19), a glass of frozen rose wine.

Crackerjack is at 43 Tanjong Pagar Rd, 8121-1462. Mon-Sat 8am-midnight, Sun 10am-10pm (brunch begins in mid-Feb).
