If you’ve been hankering for some solid roast duck without breaking the bank, the new stall at People’s Park Complex — aptly named Duck Master — sells ‘em at $15 a bird.
But those who aren’t into waiting for hours in the snaking lines at Duck Master are more than welcome to head to a hawker stall in Balestier, where whole roast ducks go for $13.80 each. Boom.
According to foodie blog Eat Loh, there’s a stall located in Teck Seng’s Coffee Shop off Jalan Datoh that’s offering ‘em at unbelievably cheap prices. It’s $13.80 to take away a whole, uncut roast duck, and you’ll only have to add a dollar to get it sliced up into portions. And at $14.80, that’s still cheaper than Duck Master’s $15 bird, which is sold uncut and only ready an hour after you place your order.
How did this stall — Jiu Xiang Xiang — manage to keep prices so low? Apparently, its owner has a duck farm in Malaysia with a ready supply of the birds. They taste decent too, according to Eat Loh’s verdict — but hey, you’re paying less than $14 for it, so there shouldn’t be any complaints.
