There’s a new bar in town, and it’s not content to blend in with all the other joints. Touted as the first (and only) in Asia to feature infused beer towers, Alchemist Beer Lab sits in a pretty sweet spot at South Beach. Brought to you by the same people behind microbrewery/pub Little Island Brewing Co at Changi Village, this sleek grey hangout spot proudly displays 16 state-of-the-art beer infusion towers on a marble bar for you to marvel at.
While it’s not a new process, the system they’ve got at Alchemist allows brewers to infuse any type of ingredient into the blend. Out of the 16 towers, eight taps offer draft beer from Little Island Brewing Co, including the likes of Sister Golden Ale, Singapore Pale Ale and That Old Black Magic.
The rest are open for experimentation — think dry Irish stout infused with marshmallow, vanilla pod and mint leaves, ale with grilled pineapple and anise, or rosemary in pale ale. And if the beers don’t suit your taste, fret not, ’cause they’ll be refreshed at least once a week to change things up.
As for the mod European tapas-style menu, expect dishes like slow cooked pork cheek, duck fat chips and Goldband snapper ceviche, as well as charcuterie and cheese platters to keep the munchies at bay. If you’re in the vicinity, stop by from noon to 3pm and get the set lunch ($15.90), which offers options like steak sandwich and potato gnocchi, then wash it all down with a brew or two.
Alchemist Beer Lab is at #B1-16 South Beach Avenue, 26 Beach Rd, 6386-4365. Mon-Thurs noon-midnight, Fri & eve of PH noon-2am, Sat noon-midnight.
