Nestled among the row of eateries on Greenwood Avenue, Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers is the new concept by the people behind Plank Sourdough Pizza and Baker & Cook, this time hawking its signature whole wheat sourdough buns as a base for meat patties.
The eatery itself is comfy and casual, with a sign declaring “our buns are better than yours” in hot pink neon lights, and high tables dotting the space by the open concept kitchen. There’s also a dog-friendly patio area where you can hang out with your canine buddy and watch the world go by.
On the menu of burgers (and other extras), the bun-and-meat combination comes in all kinds of variations, starting with the basic Mo ($17) and Jo ($18) with a beef patty, house mayo, mustard, tomato relish, and cheddar for the latter. The meats are all made of grain-fed Aussie beef and cooked medium, unless otherwise requested. As for the buns, which are baked daily at Baker & Cook, you can choose from sourdough, soy and linseed, and gluten-free (for an extra $1.50) options.
If you’d like to get a little fancy, try the Classic Kiwi ($20) to add a fried egg and beetroot to your burger. Otherwise, the Jamaican ($16) tops grilled chicken with jerk relish and lime mayo, while the Naughty CCC ($18) sandwiches pair fried chicken with camembert cheese and cranberry sauce.
Other burgers include the Babe ($19) of pulled pork and BBQ sauce, as well as the veggie version: Goddess ($18), with beetroot and quinoa patty, crumbed feta, mayo, and tomato relish.
You can also toss in add-ons like bacon ($3), guacamole ($2), pineapple ($2), and an extra beef patty ($5) at an added cost. Or you could just save space for sides like crinkle cut fries ($6) and sweet potato fries ($7), or desserts such as chocolate caramel brownie with soft serve ($8.50) and apple and cherry pie ($8.50).
