After taking over the soup scene in Malaysia with 18 outlets, Souper Tang has finally reached across the Causeway to open up shop at The Centrepoint. Broths chock full of Chinese herbs are the main highlight here, with 12 types of double-boiled soups to choose from. The signature one ($26.90/two, $39.90/four) is a concoction of dried scallops, shiitake mushrooms, American ginseng slices, ginseng root, cordyceps flower, fish maw, chicken and glutinous rice wine, with anti-ageing and vitality-boosting qualities.
As for the original six, which have been on the menu since the brand came about in 2009, they’ll all be available in single portions. Pick from the panax ginseng chicken soup ($15.90), American ginseng soup with black chicken ($15.90), ning shen remedying soup ($12.90) with wild yam and ginseng root, tian qi nourishing soup ($13.90) with goji berries and notoginseng, gelatin ba zhen nourishing soup ($12.90) of angelica root and tuber fleeceflower, or the shi quan 10 herbs soup ($13.90), a mix of rehmannia, osmanthus bark and more.
Other items on the menu include noodle, rice, vegetable, chicken, pork and porridge dishes, as well as Chinese desserts like caramel ginger beancurd and snow jelly with gingko nuts. Home brewed drinks like luo han guo and osmanthus red dates tea will also be available. And if you like what you try, you can purchase pre-packed herbs for soups, floral teas and bottled essence of chicken at the retail corner to bring home.
Souper Tang is at #02-52 & #02-K01 The Centrepoint, 176 Orchard Rd, 6737-6772. Daily 11.30am-10pm.
