Bad news, fans of Sky on 57. The Marina Bay Sands fine dining restaurant, which sits on the 57th floor of the hotel, will close its doors for good on June 4, after seven years of operations. Helmed by local celeb chef Justin Quek, the modern Asian restaurant — which received decent reviews in the 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore — will serve its last lunch and dinner on June 3.
Sky on 57 has been the only restaurant by a Singaporean celebrity chef at Marina Bay Sands, but it’s not the first celebrity name to close. Guy Savoy shuttered his French restaurant in 2014, and Santi by late Spanish chef Santi Santamaria closed down in 2013.
Quek, 55, told The Straits Times that “it has been a good seven-year run. The restaurant and bar are doing well with a unique dining concept and location. I have grown attached to this space, but I need to respect the management’s decision to remodel it.”
Lavo, an Italian restaurant, bar and club that has opened in cities like New York and Las Vegas, will replace the coveted 57th-storey space at a later date. But Quek has hinted at future plans with MBS, so watch this space.
