COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Get more bang for your buck at new pizza place Knicker+Bockers, a casual eatery in the basement of Ocean Financial Centre that offers a create-your-own dining concept. Basically, that means you can add an unlimited number of toppings on your pizza or pasta, customise every aspect of it, and pay a set price.
Sounds too good to be true? It’s actually not. Okay, so they don’t pile on loads of toppings if you pick every single ingredient on the list, but everything in moderation, right? The plates of pizzas and pastas are constructed in a way that no matter how many meats and veggies you choose, the portion size is about the same, but you get a wider variety of ingredients.

For a cool $12.90, you get a 10-inch pizza; $8.90 gets you a bowl of pasta. Ordering is made easy with forms that you fill out — you can even name your dish. The DIY pizza process starts when you pick the dough of your choice from four options: NY-style (round and thin with thicker edges, NY-style with herbs and spices, Cali-style (oval-shaped, thin and crispy), and Cali-style with herbs and spices. Next up, decide on a sauce, whether it be classic tomato, smoky BBQ, curry sauce, garlic pesto or white cream.
From here on out, everything is game — which means you can technically tick every single box, but you might have to deal with a crust that’s sagging from the weight of your greed.

Eight cheeses are available to sprinkle on your pizza, including cheddar, parmesan, mozzarella and feta. Then come the toppings: 20 veggies, 16 meats and 6 seafood types. They’ve got everthing from smoked duck, Hungarian salami and fennel sausage to tuna flakes, calamari and smoked salmon.

If you’re the indecisive type, they’ve got you covered with 10 pre-selected options, such as the Curry Lovers with NY-style dough, curry sauce, mozzarella, curry chicken, chicken sausage and red onion, or the Super Hipster of Cali-style dough, garlic pesto sauce, parmesan, olives, prawn, calamari and smoked salmon.

As for the pastas, first choose from spaghetti, penne, spinach linguine or fusilli, then pick your sauce from tomato, garlic pesto and carbonara. Cheeses are similar to the ones offered for pizzas, except you’ve got nacho cheese sauce available for pastas only. Toppings are not as varied, with 10 veggie types and 10 meats, including cherry tomatoes, roasted eggplant, herbed chicken and bacon strips.

Same goes for the pre-selected options: They’ve got cheekily-named ones like Les Vegans, which serves a bowl of spinach linguine with garlic pesto, feta, mushrooms, olives and green capsicums, and Tribeca Beca Beca, a plate of fusilli pasta drenched in carbonara sauce and topped with mozzarella, cheddar, gouda, feta and olives.
For a pizza-like breakfast, smaller-sized breads with eggs, cheese and meat are also available.

CBD workers will likely be the ones to take full advantage of this new space, but if you’re ever in the area around lunch time and you feel like having a piping hot slice of pizza with all your favourite toppings, stop by to check it out.
