There’s nothing Singaporeans love more than an affordable buffet meal. Better yet if it’s held in a new and shiny or recently revamped space. Luckily for Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, it’s got both boxes ticked. After a facelift earlier this year, the hotel’s all-day dining buffet restaurant, Melt Cafe, is ready to receive hungry guests.
Taking centre stage in the stylish surroundings is a patisserie counter filled with sweet treats, as if beckoning you to come closer for a taste of a sugar high. These are all available for purchase. But head deeper into the restaurant and you’ll find a drool-worthy selection of crustaceans, shellfish, cold cuts, sashimi, sushi and salads.
The carving corner dishes out roast meats, while the cook-to-order pasta counter lets you choose your toppings and sauces, and the live gourmet station serves up piping hot bowls of noodles. There’s a wide selection of Indian cuisine here as well, if you’re hankering for tandoori chicken or cheese naan.
If desserts are calling out your name, grab a bunch of fruits and dip ’em in chocolate fondue, then go back for more pastries, cakes, ice creams and even crepes that are prepared on the spot. Or try the assorted cheeses and sip on a glass of wine to end off your meal.
Mon-Sat lunch buffet $62/person; Sun-Wed dinner buffet $78/person; Thurs-Sat dinner buffet $88/person, including barbecue selections; Sun brunch $98/person, including free flow juices and soft drinks, or $158/person, including free flow champagnes, wines, cocktails, beers, juices and soft drinks.
Melt Cafe is at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, Marina Square, 5 Raffles Ave. Call 6885-3500 for reservations. Lunch noon-2.30pm, brunch noon-3pm, dinner 6.30pm-9.30pm.
