Fancy a blast to the past? As in, the days of now-retro arcade games (sure makes you feel old, doesn’t it). New Clarke Quay bar Level Up is a nightlife concept that’ll keep you entertained through the wee hours of the morning — and you won’t even have to resort to your default drinking game (although it does offer beer pong).
Set in a neon-lit shop house covered in graffiti by local street art collective RSCLS — even the restrooms are decked out with Archie comics — the eclectic space accommodates a crowd of 250 and features all kinds of games, including old-school arcade ones such as Street Fighter, Outrun, Time Crisis, and Bishi Bashi, as well as sporty ones like foosball, air hockey, darts, basketball, and pool.
It’s quite the stroll down the nostalgia lane of the ’80s and ’90s when you find yourself purchasing tokens to operate each game — especially since arcades are a nearly extinct breed in Singapore.
Besides the main entertainment, the bar also hosts musicians for live performances of hip-hop, rock, and pop tunes.
Should you get peckish, the menu includes snacks like salted egg fish skin ($12), spicy pulled pork sliders ($15), seaweed fries ($10), luncheon meat chips ($10), and Thai-style ikan bilis ($5), as well as cocktails and party punch bowls ($108) in flavors like Purple Galaxy, Watermelon Sake, and Botanical Paradise.
Level Up is at #02-04, 3A River Valley Rd, 6266-2276. Mon-Thurs 2pm-2am, Fri-Sat 2pm-3am, Sun 2pm-11pm.
