Singapore’s year-round sweltering heat getting to ya? Cool down with ice cream creations that are themed on local icons and ingredients, made by new homegrown ice cream parlor Leeu SG (or maybe boozy slushies, if that’s more your scene).
Set up by a husband-and-wife duo, the brand takes its name from the top half of our lion city’s mascot/famous statue — “leeu” means “lion” in the South African language of Afrikaans.

And the spirit of Singapore is strong here — which is great for reeling in tourists in the Esplanade area — with two patriotic highlights: the Merlion ice popsicle ($4.80) and the Esplanade ice cream ($11.80). The red-and-white icon of the island is a less-sweet strawberry and vanilla confection that’s apparently been endorsed by the Singapore Tourism Board (because why not), while the spiky green sculpture is made with durian, natch.
Leeu SG’s ice cream is produced in small batches, since the menu’s quite a tiny one. The only other “artisanal” item is The Fish Tail soft serve ($6.80), made from trendy superfood ingredient Blue Majik and served in Japanese fish-shaped waffles.

They’re also doing varieties of milk or soda-based ice cream floats — intriguing-sounding concoctions like The Zouk-Out Cure ($6.80) with yuzu lemon ginger soda; The Purple Fantasy ($7.80), a taro smoothie served in a unicorn float; The Old Timer ($6.80) made with pandan milk and beancurd; or the Sentosa Breeze ($6.80), lychee soda in a cool shade of blue.
