Jumbo Seafood has become somewhat of an institution in Singapore since its debut in 1987 at East Coast Seafood Centre. It’s most known for its famous chilli crab, which has gained the restaurant brand loads of staunch supporters over the years, but nothing much has changed since it established six locations across the country.
So it’s with a bit of a buzz that the seafood chain opened its first outlet in a decade this week at Ion Orchard, making it Jumbo’s first space along the shopping street.

To match the sleek interior of the mall, the elegant 160-seater space welcomes you like any other Chinese restaurant, full of round tables outfitted with tablecloths. Plus, the menu here is a little more refined, meaning you won’t have to get your hands dirty digging into chilli crab. Because you can have it in bite-sized bites, in baked or pan-fried versions ($8.80).

Also on the dim sum line-up are steamed rice rolls with prawns and laksa gravy ($6.80), steamed prawn dumplings with black truffle ($6.80), and steamed shiitake mushrooms with black pepper buns ($6.80). If you’re looking for a shopping break on weekends, stop by for tea and light bites. Besides Jumbo signatures, the new outlet features two pao fan (rice served in soup) options as well, with king prawns ($38) or Boston lobster ($78) in a seafood broth.
