Singapore’s puffing up for soufflé pancakes (again) with the entry of newcomer Gram Cafe & Pancakes, the latest wobbly pancake specialist to arrive on our island from Osaka, Japan. Set to open at VivoCity on June 16, the brand is famous for is fluffy masterpieces, slow-cooked on low heat and whipped to get its cloud-like texture.
To get down to the basics, try the Premium Pancakes ($17.90), a trio stack of 4m-thick discs simply served with house-made butter, whipped cream, and maple syrup.
Each plate is prepped upon order, and sales are only limited to 30 servings, three times a day at 11am, 3pm, and 6pm. So time your visit accordingly, and bring friends with you if you want the dish to yourself ’cause each person is limited to one order, and you know those lines are gonna be long (at least for the first few months).
If you can’t get your hands on the original, try one of the other sweet or savory renditions of classic thin pancakes. Choose from mixed fruits and chocolate pancakes ($15.90), caramelized banana pancakes ($13.90), and coconut custard pancakes ($13.90).
Alternatively, you can go the rich route and have the tiramisu ($15.90), where pancakes are soaked in espresso, layered with mascarpone cream, and topped with milk chocolate and cocoa powder.
To have ’em as a meal, try options like turkey bacon and scrambled eggs ($18.90), chilli beans with cheddar, sausage, and potato ($18.90), or smoked salmon and avocado ($19.90). Oh, and you can customize your stacks with a variety of toppings — from sauces to fruits to ice cream — to create your ideal dish.
Besides those famed pancakes, the menu offers BLT sandwiches ($14.90), parfaits ($10.90), tiramisu in cups ($9.90), and French toasts ($12.90-$15.90) with toppings such as chocolate-drizzled bananas and berries. You can also look out for a Singapore-special Japanese curry pancake creation coming to town soon.
