If you haven’t seen one of those viral videos about a Japanese rice omelet called omurice, check this one out. The dish is a Western-influenced style of Japanese cuisine, and it basically consists of fried rice wrapped up in a thin omelet, which can be done “lava-style” so it looks like something as glorious as this.

Now that you’re all caught up, there’s a new Japanese restaurant in town called Omu, and it pretty much specializes in all things omurice. Hailing from Thailand, the chain has been around since 2010, with six branches in Bangkok.
On the menu, you can get the famed dish in all kinds of permutations, with options like tomato sauce, demiglace sauce, curry sauce, cream sauce, or Japanese-style sauce, and add-ons such as pork cutlets, sausages, beef burger, leafy greens, and more.
For those who insist on getting the omelet lava-style (half-cooked and creamy), you’ll have to cough up an extra $2 for that strangely satisfying first cut. But it’s nowhere near daylight robbery since prices start from $9.80 for a simple tomato sauce omurice and go up to about $14.80 for one with deep-fried shrimp.
Alternatively, if you’re not an egg person but you’re being dragged to Omu by a bunch of friends doing it for the ‘gram, the menu also offers pumpkin and mushroom soups, fried snacks, salads, and carb-loaded plates like spaghetti carbonara, mentaiko cream sauce pasta, and salmon cream sauce pasta.
Unfortunately, early online reviews have grumbled about the long wait to get a table and have the food served, so be warned.
Omu is at #01-301A/301B Suntec City Mall, 9834-0079. Daily 10am-10pm.
