COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Forget the Starks, Lannisters, Targaryens and other Great Houses of Westeros. The time is ripe to offer your allegiance to House (of) Roasted Duck.
First established at Bugis Village to rave reception, the restaurant went on to launch its second outlet at Sultan Plaza along Jalan Sultan. If it’s not clear enough from its name, the eatery specialises in roasted duck, as well as a bevy of authentic Hong Kong-style roasted meats and dim sum dishes.
What they do well is deliver bona fide roasted delights at an affordable price in a no-frills setting. If you just want some honest, solid chunks of Peking duck accompanied by lush dipping sauces (made in-house) and fluffy Mandarin pancakes, House of Roasted Duck is the place to get your poultry fix.
We’d recommend trying the best of both worlds with their 2 Styles platter ($52 for whole duck) where you can sink your teeth into both the crisp, flavourful skin of Peking duck and the succulent assortment of roasted duck. Not enough duck? Get your carb on by ordering the fried rice with diced duck and egg ($14), which stands head and shoulders above your standard fried rice.
Non-duck highlights include the crispy roasted pork ($12), soy sauce chicken ($14-$36) and braised beef brisket noodles ($7.80-$8.80). Or you can go wild and have it all with the Four Heavenly Kings Platter ($48), which includes chicken, crispy roasted pork and barbecued pork to go along with the roasted duck. Might as well get your meat sweat on.
House of Roasted Duck’s new digs is at #01-08 Sultan Plaza, 100 Jalan Sultan, 6297-5490. Daily 11am-11pm.
