Who needs to share when you can enjoy your own hotpot all to yourself?

Chinese hotpot chain Xiabu Xiabu has opened its first overseas outlet on Bras Basah Road with individual hotpots and bubble tea from Tea Mi Tea.

The restaurant is under the same parent group as hotpot restaurant CouCou which opened in Singapore last year.

Xiabu Xiabu, which originated from the word ‘Shabu Shabu’ in Japanese, refers to an individual hot pot in the Hokkien dialect. It has over 1,000 outlets across China.

The 72-seater restaurant in Lazada One is plastered in earthy tones of sand and light wood accents with a bar-style concept where diners can sit on high bar stools and eat in the middle of the restaurant.

The personal hotpot sets, which start from S$28, allow diners to customize their preference of soup base and meat.

Each set comes with a vegetable platter and access to its condiments bar, rice and noodles section, and ice slushie bar. You can also choose between Da Hong Pao Tea or Aged Pu Er Tea.

Every hotpot that is sectioned into two comes with the Mushroom Soup Base, which is made with King Trumpet mushrooms, white button mushrooms and Blaze mushrooms.

There are five other broths including Coconuts’ favorite Stew Pork Tripe and Chicken Soup, which is stewed with pork tripe, chicken, white ground pepper, barley and Oatly milk.

There’s also the Nanyang Curry Soup, a much thicker broth that tastes similar to Japanese curries, the Golden Sauerkraut Soup which is more sweet than sour, the classic Tomato Soup and the spicy Sichuan Style Soup.

It’s not a hotpot without the meats. Sink, swish or stew the chicken, beef, pork, lamb cuts as well as the seafood platter that has squid, clams and prawns. Vegetarians can enjoy the mushroom combo platter.

The restaurant recommends dipping everything into their signature Sesame Dipping Sauce made from finely-ground groundnuts blended with white sesame, and the Peach Vinegar that goes well with fatty meats.

Signature items to add on include the Spain Pork Belly, USDA Choice Ribeye, Fuzhou Balls from Taiwan and Prawn Paste

If that’s not enough, go for the Spicy Fried Popcorn Chicken (S$6.30) and the Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice (S$2.50).

Wash them all down with their Da Hong Pao Bubble Tea (S$5.80), Pu Er Bubble Tea (S$5.80), Wintermelon Tea with Lemon (S$5.80) and Kumquat Tea (S$5.40).

Soon you’ll see more of the restaurant as it has ambitious plans to open six more outlets in Singapore and further expand to Malaysia.
