Hot or Not? ‘Camp Symmetry’ pie

What: The Camp Symmetry pie is a special (and limited) menu item at Windowsill Pies, in collaboration with — you guessed it — the Camp Symmetry indie music festival happening in Singapore this November. “We noticed the similarities between Camp Symmetry’s visual identity and ours, and thought it’d be cool to explore a collaboration,” explained Windowsill Pies founder Sean Gwee.

What’s hot: It’s certainly adventurous. The combination of white chocolate pudding and white truffle cookie streusel topped with candied thyme is one not many will be brave enough to try, but they’ve done it. And as if with many of Windowsill’s offerings, this one’s just the right amounts of crumbly and chewy, and doesn’t taste jelat (but that’s probably because… well, read on).

What’s not: The folk at Windowsill Pies were so inspired by the woods — the visual identity Gwee talks about — they decided to make a pie that tastes just like it. That’s right — it may look nothing like the forest (though if you’re interested, Petite Menu [G/F Aqueen Hotel, 139 Lavender St., 6395-7782] a mere stone’s throw away from Windowsill does a Blackforest dessert that looks like a healthy serving of soil), but a mouthful of the Camp Symmetry likens to scoffing down bits of the earth. We think the fragrant and uniquely savoury truffle has a lot to do with it.

Verdict: Lukewarm. It’s not for everyone.

Try the Camp Symmetry pie ($8) at Windowsill Pies (78 Horne Rd., 9004-7827)—it’s available till end of November—or at Camp Symmetry happening November 2 at Gardens by the Bay.
