Singaporeans living in London will soon remember the glorious feeling of sinking their teeth into a crisp Old Chang Kee curry puff when the homegrown chain makes its debut in the UK. Opening an outlet in central London in the second half of the year, Old Chang Kee will dish up crowd favorites like chicken curry puffs, curry potato puffs, mushroom chicken puffs and curry chicken rice sets.

Sandra Leong, a 35-year-old Singaporean (and former Straits Times journalist) who has lived in London for the last six years, was the one who approached Old Chang Kee last year to pitch the idea.

Already, an Old Chang Kee pop-up two weeks ago in north-west London saw overwhelming responses, with 1,200 puffs sold out within four hours at the two-day event. But the hunt for a shop space isn’t over yet, as they’re searching for a place that sees high traffic volume and is at least 500 sq ft.

Since quality is key, a team from Singapore’s Old Chang Kee will head to London for two weeks to impart their knowledge on the cooking process and operations. But the curry paste, made from a secret recipe of spices here, will be shipped to London. If everything goes well, other UK cities like Manchester and Birmingham could also be welcoming the curry puff chain in the near future.
