Healthy meals including quinoa and coconut water now available on Singapore Airlines

Healthy eating is a lifestyle, or so they say. We’re too busy stuffing our faces with deep fried goodness to notice otherwise. But if you’re the type of gym rat who counts calories and shudders at anything soaked in sodium, you’ll be happy to hear that Singapore Airlines has just introduced healthier meal options under its Deliciously Wholesome programme.

Starting from today, passengers on flights going to Europe and Australia get to enjoy the new menu. Here are some of your economy and premium economy choices: Quinoa ratatouille with chick peas, steamed fish with wolfberry sauce and brown rice, tofu cheesecake, and let’s not forget the ever-popular alternative to H2O — coconut water.

For those flying with business, first class and suites, take your pick from 17 options including herbal broth chicken with brown la mian and Chilean seabass with kale and quinoa salad from the Book A Cook service.

Sure sounds delish. Much better than sausages and hashbrowns, fried beehoon and curry rice with a side of guilt. Guess eating clean now extends to vacations as well. Oh, the horror. What a treat.

The airline and the SATS catering team took about seven months to polish up the menu of 35 dishes, with more to be added in the future. A nutrition expert was also brought in for consultation, to recommend ingredients like beetroot, whole grains, nuts and citrus fruits to rejuvenate the body. Even desserts aren’t as calorific as they look — the chocolate vanilla pudding is made of cocoa nibs and almond milk instead of chocolate and cream.

So the next time you fly Singapore Airlines, try out the new dishes — perhaps you’ll feel less bloated and more prepared to take on the world.

Wholesome meal choices coming your way!
