If you’ve got out-of-town visitors to impress or are just feeling a little fancy, then go the swanky route for breakfast this weekend at Shangri-La Hotel’s The Lobby Lounge, where you’ll shell out a couple more dollars for a fancy spread of familiar local favorites. It’s not the same as rolling out of bed to greet your favorite hawker uncle or auntie for your usual fix, but hey, you’ll get to throw on your best smart casual threads to get a bright and early start in town.

Six new dishes are now available on weekend mornings, including nasi lemak, roti prata, soft-boiled eggs with kaya toast, wanton mee, carrot cake, and Hainanese porridge. And before you scoff at the difference between hotel and hawker food, Shangri-La apparently collaborated with famous names like The Coconut Club and Springleaf Prata Place to showcase their recipes for nasi lemak and roti prata respectively. (The others are crafted by the hotel’s in-house chefs.)

Choose one of these items to go with the selection of free-flow sides by iconic local names, including Tiong Bahru Jian Bo Shui Kueh’s shui kueh, Ah Yee’s soon kueh, and HarriAnn’s yam cake and tau suan. Then wash it all down with drinks like kopi tarik, teh tarik, and Milo.

At $29.50 per adult, you’re definitely paying more for the buffet than you would at any hawker stall, so if you’re gonna have a go, at least do the typical Singaporean thing and make it worth your while by stuffing your face till you’re good on grubbing for the entire day.
