Making a comeback from its hiatus, Rumah Rasa returns to Bay Hotel, ready to dish out Indonesian dishes once again. The halal Indonesian restaurant, which opened back in 2012, now has its own edible garden, with herbs and spices planted in the premises of the hotel — think ingredients typical in Indonesian cuisine, such as kaffir lime leaves, kemangi (lemon basil), pandan leaves and chillies.
On the menu are appetizers such as sate lilit ($7.90), Balinese skewers with spiced minced chicken wrapped around lemongrass sticks; the towering tahu telor ($7.90), a fluffy, crispy creation whipped up with six eggs; and pempek palembang ($7.90), a chewy fish cake made with tapioca flour and plated with eggs and vermicelli.
As for the mains, choose from items like ayam panggang berkakak (grilled chicken, $13.90) or paru belado (stir-fried beef lung, $9.90), or splurge a little for the ikan kakap bakar cianjor ($28.50), a whole grilled sea bass made with herbs and spices grown in the garden.
Then end on a sugar high with goreng pisang (fried banana, $6.90) or bubur hitam (black sticky rice, $6.90).
Weekdays at the restaurant offer set lunches from $15, while weekends feature lunch and dinner buffets.
And since Rumah Rasa has recently reopened, it’s dishing out an opening promo for July — dishes like Sate Lilit, Soto Madura (spicy beef soup) and Cendol will go for $1, no minimum spending required.
Rumah Rasa is at L1, Bay Hotel Singapore, 50 Telok Blangah Rd, 6818-6681. Weekend lunch buffet: noon-3pm, $38; weekend dinner buffet: 6.30pm-9.30pm, $48.
