Gourmet dining gone horribly wrong: LeVeL33’s fish and chips turns out to be 8 tiny fishes with 8 fries

It’s a little after lunchtime now. Did you have a good meal? Fish and chips were great today, you say?

You know where not to get fish and chips though? Probably LeVeL33, the very atas restaurant whose version of fish and chips turned out to be eight exact pieces of what looked like lightly fried ikan bilis on top of eight exact pieces of potato strips.

Or so alleged one netizen on Facebook, who dropped by the restaurant at Marina Bay Financial Centre last Friday for a meal. Sure, the spot really does have genuinely amazing views of the city skyline, and its craft beer menu looks pretty decent — but even dining in the “world’s highest urban craft-brewery” isn’t enough to excuse this travesty.

No, the minuscule slices of lemon, pickle, and onions aren’t helping things at all. Here’s what proper fish and chips looks like, just in case you’ve no idea what it is (also, who are you?):

You really can’t go wrong with the basic premise — just a piece of fried battered fish fillet and a heap of hot fries. Salt and malt vinegar for the purists; tartar sauce and mushy peas for the rest of us.

To be fair, the patron admitted that he should have read the menu properly — after all, it did state that the dish consists of whitebait, i.e. immature little baby fishes. Nonetheless, that didn’t really justify the alleged price tag of $17.50, right?

The netizen’s claim about the plate of wee fish-on-‘taters proved to be untrue, according to LeVeL33, who sent us a clarification on the price tag. According to a spokesperson, the Fish & Chips that the netizen ordered was from the Beer Dining Menu, and not from the ala carte dinner menu. Furthermore, the price of the whitebait platter in subject is in fact $13, and not $17.50 as claimed.

However, LeVeL33 does actually serve proper fish and chips — or at least its atas version of it. Chips-wise, it is kinda selfish though.
