COCONUTS HOT SPOT — As far as pizza places go, there’s no lack in Singapore. From pizza deliveries to mid-range doughs to atas toppings, you can easily get your preferred pie anywhere on the island and eat it. But if you’ve been a fan of Yellow Cab Pizza Co. since day one, you’ll be psyched to hear that its first outlet in Singapore is now open.
Taking over the space formerly occupied by Starbucks at CityLink Mall (the part that’s closest to Esplanade MRT), Yellow Cab’s decor takes after its name, with touches of traffic-inspired elements on the walls of its interior. Outside, the breezy alfresco seating area twinkles with fairy lights.
Bringing New York-inspired pizzas to our shores, the brand is known for its rather affordable prices, not-too-thick crusts, generous toppings and large sizes (that range from 10-inch to 18-inch). Best shared with buddies, the most popular pie has gotta be the meaty New York’s Finest, which is sprinkled with pork pepperoni, beef salami, ground beef, Italian sausage and ham. For the indecisive, Four Seasons is your best bet — it features four varieties in one: the NY Classic of pork pepperoni, #4 Cheese with mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan and feta, Anchovy Lovers, and Roasted Garlic and Shrimp.
Oh, and did we mention the toppings are spread out to every corner of the dough? That basically means all you crust-haters won’t have to feel somewhat embarrassed about leaving the pizza ends on your plate as evidence of how many slices you inhaled.
Other pizza options include the Manhattan Meatlovers (no veggies here), the ever-present classic Hawaiian, and the Garden Special of tomatoes, olives, mushrooms and bell peppers.
If you wanna go light on carbs, try the Singapore-exclusive Dear Darla selection of roasted garlic, ricotta and mozzarella or pepperoni, mushrooms, olives and capers. Both thin crust pizzas are served with arugula leaves and alfalfa sprouts, and they’re cut into four slices so you can roll ’em up (like a Swiss roll) and drizzle on chilli oil for an extra kick.
Besides pizza, Yellow Cab’s menu is pretty limited. Pastas ($12.50) come in four standard choices, including aglio olio and spaghetti with meatballs — although there is the slightly more unique plate of Charlie Chan pasta with chicken strips, shiitake mushrooms and roasted peanuts drizzled with a spicy sauce. Sides are also available, with bites like hot wings ($8-$11), twice-baked potato halves ($7.50) and tortilla chips with salsa ($4.50). On the drinks side, choose from beers, ciders, wines, sodas, spirits and fruit juices.
Yellow Cab Pizza Co. is at B1-01/02 CityLink Mall, 1 Raffles Link, 6327-9000. Daily 10am-10pm. Ten-inch pizzas start from $14, 14-inch pizzas start from $24, 18-inch pizzas start from $34.
