Anyone up for some fried chicken, followed by a 4D movie ride and virtual reality (VR) games? What a strange combination, you must be thinking. And it is, only at DM Chicken, the Chinatown eatery that opened last year.

Probably inspired to offer customers good food and fun, the restaurant features a rather starved-looking Bumblebee (from Transformers) lookalike at the entrance, beckoning you to step into the third-floor space on New Bridge Road.

Inside, the casual dining joint offers a steamboat and BBQ buffet, alongside unconventional sharing platters that consist of chicken, prawn, lamb chops, fries, and, er, fruit salad, in sizes that range from 50cm to 75cm to 100cm. It’s a weirdly precise way of measuring the portions, but as long as the servings are generous, we can’t complain.

Other items on the menu include kimchi seafood soup, various types of fried chicken, and tall juice towers.

But the main stars of the show — pretty much the only things that set DM Chicken apart from its competitors (not counting skinny Bumblebee) — are its 4D movie theatre and VR games. Apparently, as long as you spend $20 at the restaurant, you’ll get to redeem a free game or a free ride on the simulator. Just, y’know, don’t do it if you’re extremely full from your meal because projectile puking is no fun for anyone.
