Fried chicken fiends rejoice, for Jollibee is aiming to open at least 15 more outlets in Singapore over the next five years. The popular fast-food chain from the Philippines which already has five halal-certified stores here — two in Lucky Plaza, and one each in Paya Lebar, Changi, and Novena — will open its sixth one at Jurong East next April, according to The Straits Times.
Even though the initial surge in Jollibee’s popularity here came from the Filipino population, it seems that half the customers are now Singaporeans who just really, really love their fried chicken. But it also helped that the eatery picked accessible locations to open up shop after debuting its first store in March 2013 on the sixth floor of Lucky Plaza.
Nevertheless, the Singapore market is but a tiny blip on the map compared to Jollibee’s plans for Indonesia — which is to open 150 stores in the country over a period of 10 years.
This sure calls for a chickenjoy-ful celebration.
