Famous NYC burger and milkshake joint Black Tap opens at Marina Bay Sands

Taking over the title of Marina Bay Sands’ newest restaurant is Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, a New York City institution known for its, well, all-American burgers, craft beers, and over-the-top milkshakes. With the brand’s first foray into Asia, it’s pretty crazy to think back on how the burger place started as a tiny 15-seater at SoHo in 2015, seeing as how it has since expanded around the world with 11 restaurants.

In Singapore, the 133-seater space — which opened over the weekend — is designed by Rockwell Group, taking diners back in time with the casual, classic American luncheonette design, jazzed up with ’80s and ’90s hip hop grooves and splashes of color brightening up the otherwise-monochrome palette.

Plus, since it’s the flagship Asia location, local graffiti artist Has.J created a massive, multi-hued wall mural to welcome one and all.

When things get too crowded, the atrium area hosts tables and booths in an 80-seater pavilion as well, ideal for those who like to people-watch.

Also, you can’t miss the jaw-dropping Crazyshake island bar that will likely tempt any dessert addict walking past with its gleaming glass display cases of all the candy you could ever wish for.

More than 15 milkshakes ($12-$22) — including eight monster Crazyshakes — feature on the menu, with flavors like Cotton Candy Strawberry stuffed with lollipops, rock candy, and whipped cream, and Bam Bam Fruit Pebbles shake with Rice Krispies, a strawberry Pop-Tart and a laffy taffy rope.

If you’re not a fan of hiking up your sugar intake without a dash of booze, tap into the alcoholic selection for craft beers on tap ($16) such as the Brooklyn Lager and Sweetwater Hop Hash Session IPA, alongside cocktails ($21) like the Black Tap Mule of vodka, ginger, cucumber, lime, and club soda, or the Mint Green Tea made with Jameson whisky, Gilfard Peche de Vigne, lemon, and mint.

Let’s not forget the burgers, which come in options like the Greg Norman ($26), with wagyu beef, house buttermilk-dill sauce, blue cheese, and arugula. Or the All-American ($22) with your usual lettuce, tomato, pickles, and American cheese. Or The Californian ($23), a turkey burger with avocado, Swiss cheese, and truffle mayo. Or the crispy chicken sandwich ($23) with buttermilk coleslaw and spicy mayo.

For something a tad lighter, try the falafel burger salad ($21) with a falafel patty, greens, hummus, feta, and tahini dressing. Then pad your meal with snacks like spicy korean BBQ wings ($13/10 pieces), crispy brussels sprouts ($14) and fried mozzarella ($14).

Apparently the restaurant will be rolling out limited edition specials, holiday-themed creations, and unique-to-Singapore treats in the coming months, so watch out for that.
