Move aside, Krispy Kreme. The latest donut craze in town is focused on Haritts, a famous Japanese brand so popular that the treats are said to be limited to three per customer at their shops in Japan and Taiwan. But unlike the donuts you’re used to, the ones here lean towards the plain side (in appearance, at least), plus they’re chewier and not as heavy on the sugar. And like most things Japanese, they’re crafted with utmost care.

Apparently premium ingredients from Japan are used, including Japanese flour and Kyoto matcha powder, and just one batch of 60 takes two hours to hand-make. That means the stall will only sell 300 donuts daily, so if you’re a little late to the game, you may walk away disappointed.

Flavors on display at the takeaway store include signatures like original, chocolate, matcha, and cream cheese, as well as Earl Grey, raspberry white chocolate, banana chocolate, carrot honey, pineapple cheese, matcha white chocolate with apricot, sesame honey, and even a Singaporean option: kaya.

It seems Haritts may also be working towards more locally-inspired recipes, such as durian and orh nee (yam), but we’ll have to wait and see whether those eventually materialize.

Price-wise, they’re decently priced, ranging from $1.90 to $3.20 per piece. Drinks like iced coffee ($5.50) are available as well, made with beans from Homeground Coffee Roasters.
