A three-day matsuri is headed your way. Part of Esplanade’s new festival, Super Japan — Japanese Festival of Arts, the event will be a cultural extravaganza, with collabs between Japanese and Singaporean artists.
Titled Super Japan Matsuri, the arts fest brings the lively vibes of a genuine Japanese matsuri to our shores with authentic dishes such as takoyaki, baby castella (a mini-sized Japanese sponge cake), yakisoba and okonomiyaki (grilled pancakes) prepared by native chefs. Drinks come in the form of Japanese draft beer, shochu highball and sake cocktails.
And since it’s all about fun and games, traditional festival games specially flown in from the Land of the Rising Sun will be on display. These include old school faves like shateki (a shooting game), senbonbiki (lucky-pick strings), wanage (ring toss), yo-yo tsuri (a yo-yo balloon) and katanuki (die-cut candy). Game coupons are available for $2 each.
Each evening will feature a different theme: Friday welcomes ladies and students, Saturday is for avid cosplayers and Sunday gathers the families. If you happen to match the theme of the night, you’ll get a free game coupon (limited to the first 100 people).
Super Japan Matsuri is on May 20-22; Fri 5pm-10pm, Sat & Sun 3pm-10pm at Esplanade Waterfront, 1 Esplanade Dr. Free.
