Desserts are meant to be decadent and deeply satisfying (otherwise, what’s the point?) — but if someone were to point us in the direction of a place that serves sweet treats without a heaping side of calorie guilt, we’d be intrigued, to say the least.

Enter Duxton 41, a new dessert bistro named after its location. Set up by two fitness enthusiasts who love baking and consuming baked goods, it’s clear where their inspiration for the healthy concept comes from.

The dark-toned, minimalistic space is home to what’s been touted as the first cafe in Singapore to go completely sugar-free — meaning it relies on the natural sweetness of each ingredient, with no added sugar at all. Then there’s the protein-rich aspect, which will probably attract people from the nearby workout studios after their sweat sesh.

And before you go on about the doom and gloom of unappetizing sugar-free treats, the relatively affordable menu actually features lovely-looking cakes, pastries, and soft serve ice cream that can rival that of any other cafe.

Mini loaf cakes ($5 each) come in familiar flavors like carrot cake, matcha, and apple crumble, but without the sugar; while the soufflé cheesecake slice ($3.25) is a flourless, gluten-free concoction made of cottage cheese, egg, and corn starch. So it’s low in carbs and fat. Dayum.

If you’re quite the gym buff, you’ll probably appreciate the protein fudge-laced Galaxy Stone ($8), with a sprinkling of seasonal fruits and brown rice protein sponge cake. Unless The Ultimate Fudge Cake ($8) — layered with sugar-free chocolate, chocolate whey protein fudge, and chocolate brown rice protein sponge cake — is more your style.

Or, y’know, the Muscle Profiterole ($4.25) which, well, kind of speaks for itself — the sugar-free pastry is filled with isolate whey cream. (That’s a lot of ingredients we never thought we’d see in a dessert.)

Other things of note: The protein soft serve here is dairy-free, and there’s also the option of a vegan chocolate brownie, if you prefer. The place also stocks a selection of teas and coffees, with wine and champagne pairing for those who want something extra to go with their desserts.

Oh, and if you’re fascinated by the colorful silk scarves brightening up the space, these handwoven pieces (price undisclosed) are from Thailand and they’re on sale, should you wish to bring one home with you.
