A newcomer to the River Valley area, Nickeldime brings together craft beers and comfort pub food in its shop house space streaked with graffiti.

The edgy eatery welcomes diners into the fold with grunge chic vibes, industrial cement floors, collaborations with local artists on exposed brick walls, and a kitchen helmed by Aussie chef Tim Ashwood, who’s worked stints at the Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris’ Hotel Plaza Athénée and the renowned Vue De Monde in Melbourne.

On the menu, hearty comfort food is elevated through Ashwood’s fine dining lenses, with signatures such as duck confit atop a cheddar and thyme waffle, and croque madame made of brioche, ham, spiced béchamel, and fried egg.

If you’re just in the mood for the munchies, small bites come in options like spinach and kale croquettes, scotch eggs, and mac and cheese.

Of course, craft beer is part of the reason to check out the joint, and Nickeldime offers 16 international varieties on tap — from light and fruity ones like Stone & Wood Green Coast Lager or Lervig Orange Velvet to complex brews like Pirate Life Mosaic IPA or Black Butte Porter.

Alternatively, those not in the mood for beer can order a round of house-made lemonade, juice, or sparkling and non-sparkling wine.

Nickeldime is at #01-01, 8 Mohamed Sultan Rd, 6735-1035. Mon-Thurs noon-11pm, Fri noon-1am, Sat 10am-1am, Sun 10am-10pm.
