Coconuts Hot Spot: :pluck at Club Street

After much hubbub surrounding this new Club Street watering hole, :pluck opens its doors this Monday. We got a sneak preview of the morsels that this hip new hangout will purvey, and we liked it. 

“We wanted a place themed on sharing, because we’re constantly sharing food and communicating amongst ourselves,” relays co-owner Ken Tan.

An intimate and unpretentious affair, :pluck is a 1,200-sq. ft. longwise watering hole that opts for a minimalist décor. This welcoming environment in the middle of bustling Club Street, in which no one is far from anyone, serves sharing plates like roasted beetroot, carrots & celeriac and chestnuts, chocolate & lemongrass, imagined up by lauded chef and co-owner Brandon Teo of Keong Saik Snacks fame.

“:pluck is neither solely a bar nor did we mean for it to be a full-on restaurant,” Tan divulges.

Yet, he adds that :pluck boasts a fresh new menu crafted by the experienced bartenders of Manor Cocktail Room, and treats the discerning eater to quixotic combinations like pork neck, roasted chestnuts, sweet potato & caramelised pear, bananas, malt & honey and bone marrow, onion parsley nage.

While top-calibre Orion beer flows freely from the tap, Chef Teo spares patrons the hassle by sectioning his menu simply into “small”, “medium”, “sweet” and “sharing”. He hasn’t bothered with naming dishes like chestnuts, chocolate & lemongrass and Moscato, melon & yoghurt, which vouch for themselves once they hit your palate.

“One can either start the evening at :pluck right after work or check in late after a hearty night out,” Tan adds.

One of the night’s winners for us were the belly of suckling pig, roasted apples, celeriac & walnuts (top photo), which captivated us with its beautiful clash of crispy skin and soft fatty meat, as well as the tender and thoughtfully flavoured beef short ribs mustard pomme puree, which sadly disappeared into our bellies way too fast. roasted sea bass, carrots & lentils” and seared scallops, roasted apples & hazelnuts too were cooked to perfect texture in their rich natural flavours, which has us wanting to return to :pluck soon.
