Looks like this year’s quite the whopper for the Michelin Bib Gourmand awards in Singapore, with 50 eateries receiving the accolade — a dozen more than the 38 from 2017. The latest line-up includes 17 new names, with 28 hawker stalls taking over more than half the list.

Diehard fans of Muthu’s Curry at Little India and Ann Siang Hill’s The Coconut Club (with its famously upscale $12 nasi lemak) will be pleased to know that these two popular joints can now call themselves Michelin Bib Gourmand recipients.

Other newbies — some of which may sound familiar to you — include Eminent Frog Porridge & Seafood at Geylang, Fresh Taste Big Prawn Noodle at Zion Riverside Food Centre, Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice at Chinatown Complex, Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee and Tai Wah Pork Noodle at Hong Lim Market, and Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puff at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market.

As usual, these establishments are chosen for stand-out food that’s presented at affordable price points, all under $45.

On the downside, a couple of names have dropped out of the list this year, including 328 Katong Laksa, duck rice and porridge stall Liang Zhao Ji, ramen shop Tsuta, Chinese restaurant Peony Jade at Keppel Club, and Indian eatery Shish Mahal.

Anyway, since we’ve got a week before the full Michelin Guide 2018 for Singapore drops on July 25, you can get in line (because rest assured, there will be queues) to check out these Bib Gourmand awardees in the meantime.
